The Department of French Language Education is one of the Faculty of Languages and Arts departments, Yogyakarta State University. This department was founded in 1976 as the Department of Foreign Language Education with the French Language Education Study Program. The first graduates were awarded an associate degree (Sarjana Muda). In 1980, the Department of French Language Education, Faculty of Languages and Arts Education, Yogyakarta Institute of Teacher Education and Educational Sciences, was switched to the Bachelor level (S1).
